Sam got into chess at age 5 and has never looked back since. Over the years, he has turned that passion into a series of notable achievements: 3 Canadian national titles, official National Master titles in both Canada and the U.S. at just 16, and being the official representative of Canada at events such as the U-18 WYCC 2015, the U-16 Olympiad 2016, and the U-20 NAYCC 2016.

With 13+ years of coaching experience, Sam loves working with players of all ages and levels. Through Sam Chess Club, he’s guided more than 100 young players across Canada and the globe to remarkable success—80% have won district championships, while 40% have won provincials or qualified for nationals. His dedication has been recognized by Maclean’s Magazine, Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (C.B.C.), Global News, and Rogers News.

If you are interested in lessons, please send him a direct message on Chess.com with details about you current level, what you hope to achieve, and how much time you can dedicate to self-study. Sam accepts students based less on rating and more on the commitment and goals shared in the message, so direct messaging is the best way to connect (no friend requests). Lessons are available in English and Chinese. Further details about Sam's teaching methodology and skillset are available here.
